Abstract
Adenoid squamous cell carcinoma, an uncommon variant of squamous cell carcinoma is histopathologically characterized by acantholysis and the formation of gland-like structures.
A -69-year-old woman was presented with an asymptomatic solitary well-demarcated centrally crusted 0.7cm-sized brown nodule on the left side of the face. A histopathologic section from the lesion showed squamous cell carcinoma with adenoid
structures,
which were formed by malignant cuboidal squamous cells and contained dyskeratotic and acantholytic cells. Tumor cells showed positive response to monoclonal antibody to squamokeratin but not to monoclonal antibody to adenokeratin, which indicates
that
the origin of adenoid squamous cell carcinoma is not a ture gland but epidermal squamous cell. (Kor J Dermatol 1994 ; 32(2) : 316~320)
